Tamil is the oldest living language on Earth. It has outlasted empires, survived colonialism, and crossed oceans in the hearts of those who carried it with them.

JVDS Home is a Swiss publisher. We make books that civilisations deserve. Tamil is our first. It will not be our last.

Why we do this

Because a culture that cannot be seen begins to be forgotten. Not by others. By itself.

Tamil deserves to be displayed. On coffee tables. In living rooms. In places where no one would expect to find it, and where it belongs just as much as anywhere else.

The root and branch principle

Every chapter of our first book shows the same subject in two worlds. The root: Jaffna, the Kaveri Delta, Chennai, Thanjavur, Madurai, Kollam. The branch: Zurich, London, Toronto, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur.

There is no contradiction between them. There is a biography.

What comes next

After the book come posters and prints, then ceramics and objects. Tamil aesthetics for the modern home — from the root all the way to the branch.
